A little lesson in the dissonance in the conversation about what CAUSES cancer and what we as people-who-don’t-want-cancer can do to PREVENT CANCER.
The list of preventable causes of cancer from the World Health Organization says that top 7 causes of cancer are:
- Tobacco
- Physical inactivity, dietary factors, obesity and being overweight
- Alcohol use
- Infections
- Environmental pollution
- Occupational carcinogens
- Radiation
According to the Mayo Clinic, the 7 things you can do to avoid cancer are:
- Don’t use tobacco
- Eat a healthy diet
- Maintain a healthy weight and include physical activity in your daily routine
- Protect yourself from the sun
- Get immunized
- Avoid risky behaviors
- Take early detection seriously
So basically, you as a human being should take the first 4 preventable causes of cancer seriously, and take personal steps to avoid them! And for the rest, well, get screened early and often because in America we just aren’t taking big enough steps to curb environmental pollution or regulate industry. And we’re just increasing the amount of radiation we’re exposed to almost every time we get screened!
How often are we told to clean up our acts so that the government and big corporations don’t have to clean up theirs?
We here at The Cancer Show thinks it’s time they do their part.
